WHAT IS REBOUND?
Rebound is an initiative to help the needy population of New York City in small ways. Our goal is to distribute fanny packs at local homeless shelters and soup kitchens to people in need. Each fanny pack contains basic body amenities and medical supplies that can help their users in difficult times and give them a boost of morale and health.

OUR STORY
I am a Junior in high school and I started the Rebound Project a year ago with the help of my school. As I volunteered at food pantries, I interacted with some people in need and realized that many basic items I took for granted were not accessible to them. They told me how those items would be the first step to bring them back on their feet. After many discussions, I put together a list of goods including hygienic and medical supplies that can fit in a fanny pack easy to carry.

Our goal is to raise enough money to buy and distribute fanny packs to homeless individuals and give them a better chance to live a normal life.​ One of my inspirations for starting this project was of a man who lived on the street near my school. He would frequently sit there asking for money with a clear infection on his leg. Over a couple of years, it continued to grow and his condition worsened eventually causing a hole in his leg. After a few more months his leg was gone; he had to amputate it. This man's leg might have been saved if he had been able to treat his condition earlier on, which is why there are antiseptic wipes and band-aids in each pack. Each item inside the packs has been chosen for a reason, and I hope they make a difference in the lives of the people who receive them. Although it is impossible to know what the outcome would have been had this person had access to some medical supplies, there are many people like him who could use items in the Rebound Pack to treat small injuries before they become critical.
